March Kankakee County COUNTRY Financial Agent Spotlight:

Randy Van Fossan

This month, we are proud to highlight Randy Van Fossan. The Kankakee County community is home to many dedicated professionals who help individuals, families, and businesses protect their futures. This month, the Kankakee County Farm Bureau is proud to highlight Randy Van Fossan, a Financial Advisor with COUNTRY Financial, who has been serving the Bourbonnais area for more than two decades. Located at 1307 N. Convent St., Suite 1 in Bourbonnais, Randy has spent 26 years working in the insurance and financial services industry, all from the same office. Over the years, he has built lasting relationships with clients across Kankakee County while helping them navigate important financial and insurance decisions. Randy was drawn to the profession after recognizing the true value of insurance when it is handled properly. As he explains, “Over time I began to appreciate that insurance done well is a blessing to its owner—done poorly, not at all.” That philosophy has guided his career and the way he works with clients every day. In his role as a Financial Advisor with COUNTRY Financial, Randy specializes in a wide range of services, including life insurance, farm and business continuation planning, home and auto coverage, financial and retirement planning, and commercial insurance. His work often focuses on helping families, farmers, and business owners protect what they have built while preparing for the future. What sets Randy apart is his commitment to honesty, transparency, and strong coverage. In his office, clients receive proposals that focus on the right levels of protection from the start. As Randy says, “We give our best numbers out of the box, paying strict attention to insurance levels and coverage on every proposal. You can shop us—we are not shopping you.” His business is guided by a simple principle: operating with a strong moral compass. Building relationships is also central to Randy’s approach. He believes that successful business relationships are built on personal connection and trust. “People do business with people they like,” he says, “and they continue to do business with people they trust. Likeability is important. Trust is everything.” One client experience in particular stands out to Randy. A husband and wife once came to his office to discuss life insurance. The husband struggled to understand some of the details, and his wife gently reassured him, saying, “That’s okay, hon, let’s just go ahead.” Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly sometime later. When the husband returned to Randy’s office, he remembered that moment and asked, with tears in his eyes, “Do you remember her patting me on the arm?” Randy told him he did. The client then said, “She really loved me, didn’t she?” Randy replied, “She really did.” Moments like that reinforce the importance of planning ahead and protecting the people we care about. Randy notes that one of the most common misconceptions about insurance is that people often focus too much on finding the cheapest option. In reality, he believes it’s more important to focus on having the right coverage. His advice for those beginning to think about their financial future is simple: find an advisor you like and trust, ask questions, listen to the answers, and be smart about money. Outside of his professional work, Randy is deeply involved in the community. He serves as president of Christmas Day, Inc., a local charity founded 31 years ago. The organization hosts a fundraiser called “Christmas Golf in September,” and every dollar raised helps provide Christmas Day dinners at ten locations throughout Kankakee County for people who might otherwise spend the holiday alone. Randy says one of the things he enjoys most about working in this community is the people. “The Kankakee County community is populated with fine people who seek a level of security through faith, finance, and insurance.” When he’s not in the office, Randy enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors on his farm. His personal philosophy is straightforward: “We do not lie, cheat, or steal. We seek to do the right thing at every turn the first time.” For Randy, the most rewarding part of his job is helping people recover from loss and remain financially secure. Those interested in learning more or discussing their insurance and financial planning needs can reach Randy at (815) 932-3000 or by email at randy.vanfossan@countryfinancial.com. He is also available through Facebook and his COUNTRY Financial website. As Randy likes to remind people, “It costs nothing to talk.”

This month, we are proud to highlight Zachary Curwick. He has been working in the insurance and financial services industry for six years, building a reputation for being accessible, dependable, and genuinely committed to helping clients understand their coverage. Located at 1200 N. Convent Street, Suite B in Bourbonnais, Zachary proudly serves the community he calls home.

A Career Built on Service
Zachary chose a career in insurance to both provide for his family and to help others gain a better understanding of insurance—what it is, how it works, and why it matters. His approach is simple: be available, be honest, and be helpful. He believes insurance shouldn’t be confusing or intimidating, and he works closely with clients to ensure they feel confident in their decisions.

Areas of Expertise
Zachary specializes in a wide range of coverage options, including:
•Life Insurance
•Home Insurance
•Auto Insurance
•Commercial Insurance
•Farm Insurance
This diverse expertise allows him to support clients through all stages of life, from protecting their first home to safeguarding family farms and local businesses.

What Sets Him Apart
What truly distinguishes Zachary is direct access to the agent. Every client has his personal cell phone number, and when they call, they speak directly with him—not an assistant or call center. Zachary believes strong relationships are built through availability and trust, and his clients consistently share how much they value being able to reach their agent whenever they need assistance.

Making a Meaningful Impact
One of the most meaningful parts of Zachary’s work is helping families during difficult times. He shared that being able to provide a life insurance check to a family in need is especially impactful. While money can never replace a loved one, it can help ease the burden of funeral costs, debt, and immediate financial needs. Knowing he played a role in providing that support is something he finds truly special.

Insurance Insights
A common misconception Zachary encounters is the belief that life insurance is too expensive. In reality, he explains, it’s often far more affordable than people expect—and all it takes is a phone call to learn what options are available. His advice to those beginning to think seriously about their financial future is to start with life insurance as the foundation of their financial portfolio.

Community Involvement
Zachary is actively involved in the community, including coaching his son’s local little league team and participating in Shop with a Cop. He especially enjoys working with small businesses, noting that they are the backbone of the community and provide valuable opportunities for connection and networking.

Life Outside the Office
When he’s not working with clients, Zachary enjoys golfing, attending his children’s sporting events, and boating. His personal philosophy reflects both his work and personal life: “Sometimes in life things don’t go the way you want, but if you work hard enough, things fall into place.”

Insurance, he says, gives him the opportunity to do that every day. “It’s rewarding to know that I can help protect families, businesses, and their futures when the unexpected happens,” he shares. Being able to stay involved in the local community is an added bonus.
Maguire specializes in:
  • Farm Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Auto Insurance
  • Commercial Insurance
  • Life Insurance
His broad range of services allows him to support clients with many different needs, whether they’re protecting a family home or securing coverage for a growing business.
 What Sets Him Apart
Transparency and communication are at the core of Maguire’s work. He takes the time to ensure his clients fully understand what their policies cover—and just as importantly, what they don’t. His clients appreciate his straightforward approach and his commitment to being highly responsive whenever questions arise.
 Building Strong Client Relationships
Maguire prioritizes getting to know his clients on a personal level, learning what matters most to them and what their long-term goals look like. That understanding helps him create tailored coverage plans, moving beyond one-size-fits-all solutions. His goal is for clients to feel they have a trusted partner by their side, not just an insurance agent.
A Success Story That Stands Out
One memorable experience involved a client who was in a motor vehicle accident. Thanks to the careful policy review Maguire had completed with them beforehand, the claim process was smooth, efficient, and stress-free. Their vehicle was repaired quickly, and they had peace of mind knowing they were financially protected. “It reminded me why building strong relationships matters,” Maguire says. “Insurance should work for you when you need it most.”
 Common Misconceptions
According to Maguire, many people think insurance only matters when something bad happens. In reality, it supports long-term stability—helping families meet mortgage requirements, helping businesses secure contracts, and providing ongoing peace of mind.
Advice for Those Planning Their Financial Future
“Start with the basics,” Maguire encourages. “Protect what you already have—your home, your vehicles, and your loved ones. Once your foundation is solid, you can build from there.”
 Community Involvement
Maguire stays active in the Manteno and Kankakee County communities through:
  • Manteno Chamber of Commerce
  • Manteno Oktoberfest
  • Kankakee County Fair 4-H
  • Numerous Chamber-sponsored events
With family ties in the area, he values Manteno’s small-town atmosphere and the opportunity it gives him to stay connected to his roots.
 Life Outside the Office
When he’s not helping clients, Maguire enjoys staying active—working out, spending time outdoors, volunteering, watching sports, and connecting with family, friends, and neighbors.
 Guiding Philosophy
His personal motto is simple: “Keep moving forward no matter what.” That determination shows in the care and dedication he brings to his work every day.
The Most Rewarding Part of His Job
For Maguire, the greatest reward is the trust clients place in him. Every phone call asking for advice—or referral shared with a friend—means he’s made a meaningful impact.
